What We Do

Going Beyond Traditional Medical Missions…

POP goes beyond having annual surgical mission trips. It focuses on sustainability by providing education to the Dominican doctors, nurses & medical staff that collaborate with us on each mission trip.  This is the most important component of our endeavors, as it assures continuity of care. Beyond that, we also provide equipment and resources to failing areas in the regional children’s hospital (Arturo Grullón) and sponsorship programs for children with orthopedic problems that do not need surgery but need help in obtaining medications or equipment.  Lastly, POP collaborates with other non-profit institutions bot in the Dominican and the US to help us achieve our efforts.  This collaboration has allowed 4 children from the Children’s Hospital in Santiago to receive treatment in the US.

Surgical Mission Trips to Provide Free Orthopedic Care to Children in Need

Image 206

POP takes volunteer doctors, nurses, physician assistants and technologists on surgical mission trips to treat impoverished children with orthopedic disorders or deformities.

Educational Programs for Doctors, Nurses, and other medical staff

During each mission trip, volunteer participants lead one-on-one and group lecture seminars for the local doctors to train them on the latest in pediatric orthopedic care, so they may carry on the work within the community.

Improvement of Hospital Facilities

The local hospitals POP serves often have multiple facilities limitations which impact the services it can provide to the community. During each mission trip, POP participants tackle a variety of facility improvement projects.

Sponsor-A-Child Program

The communities we serve have many families in need, children with tremendous potential if only given some support. Learn more about children in need of support.

Collaboration

There are cases that are too complex to operate during our mission trips. We have therefore begun a collaboration with World Pediatric Project to bring children to the US for surgery.
