Our 4th day

March 12, 2015 by popstl

Today our first two patients Elvis and Rafael walked for the first time after surgery and did wonderfully! Our next patients Rosario and Audrey had their surgeries and have been recovering well thus far. The children were greatful to receive their Build A Bear Teddy Bears as well.

The patient’s families have been enjoying our newly remodeled waiting room and have been sleeping overnight on our couches. This is an improvement over the metal seating that was there prior. We are thrilled they have a  beautifully    decorated family waiting area! Many thanks to our supporters and donors who donated to help us make these changes that will not only help our mission but will be there for years to come.

Some of our challenges continue to be obtaining medications and supplies. We have been able get or make do with what’s available. For example last year we sent medical supplies to the hospital but the did arrive in time for our last mision. We also are working to procure our sterilization machine out of customs. We are working to accomplish this goal with a local group to help us release our machine and deliver it to the hospital.

Tomorrow 2 patients Lisbeth and Launy have their surgeries. We all worked hard and will be at the hospital tomorrow to help more children. Here are a few pictures from today.

POP is Unique

POP has a unique five arm model. POP seeks to improve orthopedic care not only by annual surgical missions but also by educating local doctors and nurses so that they can pay it forward to their communities; equipping the archaic hospital with necessary equipment, supplies and renovations; sponsoring children with orthopedic conditions that need non-surgical treatment and collaborating with other organizations to bring children with complex orthopedic conditions to the United States for treatment.
