Madelyn Stazzone, MD

|Dr. Madelyn M. Stazzone is a co-founder of the Pediatric Orthopedic Project, Inc. and serves as its President and Executive Director. As the President and ED, Dr. Stazzone provides the strategic vision and daily management for the entire organization. She led the development of POP’s model and continues to ensure the quality of our programs today. She co-founded the organization with her husband, Dr. Enrico Stazzone, an Orthopedic Surgeon. After their first surgical mission trip to the children’s hospital in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 2012, POP became an official 501(c)3 non-profit organization the following year. Since 2012, Dr. Madelyn Stazzone has lead five (5) annual mission trips to Santiago, where she is responsible for planning and leading each trip and its volunteers.
Dr. Madelyn Stazzone is a pediatric radiologist. She completed medical school at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Bronx, NY). She went on to complete an internship in pediatrics at Montefiore Medical Center (Bronx, NY) and from there went onto a four (4) year residency in radiology at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, which is part of Columbia University (New York City). She then completed a two-year fellowship in Pediatric Radiology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She spent 3 years as Assistant Professor of radiology at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center and 4 years at St. Louis Children’s Hospital bringing her expertise in the field of Fetal MRI to both institutions before temporarily retiring in 2008 to raise her children.
Dr. Madelyn Stazzone is known for her passion and persistence. Her efforts in making POP a success have not been without their share of challenges. It is with her dedication and vision that the organization flourishes and touches the lives of many.
Dr. Stazzone was born and raised in New York City and now resides in the greater St. Louis, Missouri area. She is married to her husband of 18 years and they have four children together.
Enrico Stazzone, MD
Co-founder and Vice-President
|Dr. Enrico J. Stazzone is a co-founder of the Pediatric Orthopedic Project, Inc. and serves as its Vice-President and lead orthopedic surgeon on each mission trip. As the Vice-President, Dr. Stazzone provides the pediatric orthopedic care vision for POP’s surgical mission trips. He co-founded the organization with his wife, Dr. Madelyn Stazzone, a Pediatric Radiologist. After their first surgical mission trip to the children’s hospital in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 2012. Since 2012, Dr. Enrico Stazzone has lead all surgeries during the five (5) annual mission trips to Santiago and conducts lectures for the local surgeons on the latest in orthopedic care.
Dr. Enrico Stazzone obtained in Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Arizona in 1988 and his Medical degree from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York in 1992. He obtained his Board Certification from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in 2001 and recertification in 2011. He has received numerous honors and awards including, Phi Beta Kappa, New York Academy of Medicine’s Pediatric Orthopaedic Research Award, and NYOH/Leonard Marmor Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery Award. Dr. Stazzone completed his residency at New York Orthopedic Hospital’s Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and was an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Children’s Hospital of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Today, Dr. Stazzone is an Orthopaedist at Mid-County Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine.
An expert in his field, Dr. Stazzone believes in sharing his knowledge with others. In addition to the lectures and continuing education he provides to fellow surgeons during the surgical mission trips, he has also made many presentations. Presentation titles include: “Evaluation and Management of Back Pain in Children”, “Sports Injuries in the Pediatric Athlete”, and “Surgical Treatment of Pediatric Spine Deformities”.
Dr. Stazzone is a firm believer in helping those in need and has volunteered on many missions, in addition to those with POP. He volunteered with the African Inland Mission at Kapsowar Hospital in Kenya, at the CURE Hospital performing scoliosis surgeries in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and with the Sacre Coeur Hospital providing post-earthquake orthopedic care in Milot, Haiti.
Dr. Stazzone has dedicated his professional career to providing excellent pediatric orthopedic care with grace, dignity and compassion for the children and families entrusted to his care, he resides in the greater St. Louis, Missouri area with his wife of 18 years and their four children.
Lisa Simani-Oren, APN, MS
Director of Marketing
|Lisa Simani-Oren serves as the Director of Marketing for Pediatric Orthopedic Project, Inc. In this capacity, Lisa develops and implements marketing strategies and tactics to support POP’s programs. She is responsible for helping to generate awareness and enthusiasm of POP’s mission and vision. Not only is Lisa a core member of the POP leadership team, but has been a regular and committed volunteer on multiple mission trips. As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), Lisa is able to provide hands-on medical support during these critical expeditions.
In addition to volunteering on medical missions with POP and serving as the Director of Marketing, Lisa consults as a Subject Matter Expert for HealthStream, a Healthcare Workforce Solutions company. She has authored numerous articles for healthcare professionals.Lisa received her Bachelor of Science degree from Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin and her Master of Science degree in Nursing from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. She recently obtained her post-masters certification in non-profit marketing and has found her true life calling.
Lisa’s passion to help the underserved population as an NP, inspired her to become more involved with POP and to be at the forefront of marketing and public relations and inspire others. She currently resides in the St. Louis area with her husband Phil and two children.
