POP is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving pediatric orthopedic care in the developing world through surgical mission trips, the education of local medical staff, and hospital facility improvements.
She will be the next patient coming to St. Louis for surgery. Once again we will collaborate with World Pediatric Project to give this child a chance at a better life. Dixmely is a 14 year old child with a neurological disorder since birth. As a result, she didn’t walk until the age of 7 years but walks in a sitting position on her ankles! She will require multiple surgeries at Shriner’s Hospital which will take about 6 months. Like many special needs children in the Dominican Republic, she is illiterate because there are no special needs schools for the poor. Apart from improving her condition, our goal is to teach her to read and write.
